CLEARFIELD – Parking fines may be increasing in Curwensville Borough.
At Monday’s meeting, the Curwensville Borough Council discussed the present parking ordinance.
Council member Robbie Moore said there have been issues with motorists parking in front of fire hydrants. He said he believes the fines for these violations are “a slap on the wrist,” because they are too low. He said a higher fine would be more of a deterrent for those parking in front of the hydrants, as well as for other common parking violations.
The council agreed that the parking ordinance should be reviewed and instructed the borough secretary to find the existing ordinance.
During the meeting, the council reported that the police department responded to 58 incidents, made 41 traffic stops, issued 11 citations and 27 warnings, responded to three motor vehicle accidents, and served five warrants. The department collected $1,754.66 in fines and court fees.
The council held an executive session for approximately 47 minutes regarding the street department but did not take any action upon returning to the regular open council meeting.
In other business, the council voted to approve:
- Granting permission for Baer’s Selective Hardwood to do a select cutting of timber near Oak Hill Cemetery.
- Advertising Ordinances 494 and 495.
- Paying the bills for September in the amount of $73,123.56.
