CLEARFIELD – A short meeting was held by the Lawrence Township Supervisors Tuesday night, and the township has finally received its new leaf vac and will soon be getting their new truck.
The leaf vac was ordered months ago and the township had anticipated using it this past autumn. However, it never arrived in time and fortunately they were able to borrow the old machine from Curwensville Borough.
Secretary Barbra Shaffner said the cost for the leaf vac is $176,012 with $89,612 to Murray Ford and $86,400 to Bradco. The state Department of Community and Economic Development provided $153,255 for the purchase and the township will pay for the remainder.
The Ford F550 truck cab and chassis was approved last month and is at Murray Ford. The supervisors approved outfitting the truck at Bradco at a cost of $39,000.
Roadmaster Ron Woodling noted that the equipment includes a nine-foot V-plow and added that he expects the truck to be fully equipped and at the township in three to six months.
Woodling also informed the supervisors that he and Police Chief Doug Clark have talked about purchasing a small radar sign that can be attached to speed limit signs. He said the cheapest he has found is about $2,900.
Supervisor Jeremy Ruffner asked about arc lights at the intersections along U.S. Route 322 and especially at the intersection by the mall. He said the intersection is very dark and dangerous.
Woodling said there has never been arc lights there, but changes in lighting in the area have made the intersection seem darker. He and Shaffner said they will look into having arc lights installed there.
Ruffner also asked about having arc lights in the township changed to LED lights and Shaffner said they can also talk to Penelec about that and that there is a program through Penelec to make the change.
