
CLEARFIELD – Attorney Joshua S. Maines Esq. was recently promoted from associate to a membership-owner of The Cummings Law Firm LLC.
According to information provided by the firm, Maines is a “highly-accomplished attorney with broad legal knowledge and a proven record of success in litigation.
“As an attorney with the Cummings Law Firm LLC, he has successfully advocated for clients in criminal and civil matters up to and including jury trials and appeals.
“As a criminal defense attorney, he has successfully defended clients on first-degree murder and other felony charges in jury trials, and has successfully suppressed evidence and defended felony and misdemeanor matters based on clients’ rights under both the Constitution of the United States and the Pennsylvania Constitution. This has resulted in full exoneration for wrongly-accused clients.”
According to the firm, Maines is also an effective negotiator and has successfully negotiated appropriate outcomes for clients resulting in the withdrawal of many felony and misdemeanor charges.
According to the firm, he also litigates civil matters, and has successfully advocated for clients in civil trials relating to real estate law, contract law and family law matters.
Other areas of practice include estate planning, real estate transactions, business law, appellate advocacy and general litigation.
Prior to joining the Cummings Law Firm, Maines practiced as an assistant district attorney in Clearfield County for more than five years. It was noted that in this position, he successfully prosecuted a significant caseload of matters at trial and on appeal.
Maines obtained a Bachelor’s degree in political science/pre-law from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
At IUP, he served in the University Senate, sat on the Academic Affairs Committee for the University Senate and served as president for the IUP Chapter of Pi Gamma Mu, an International Social Science Honor Society. He also participated in Pi Sigma Alpha, a Political Science Honor Society.
Maines received his Juris Doctorate degree from Widener University School of Law. At Widener, he attended evening classes while maintaining a full-time career in HR Management with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
In his spare time, Maines enjoys leading worship at the Gethsemane United Methodist Church. He is also a vocalist and guitar player for the Christian rock band “Heavenbound.”
He and his children are also active in local theater, where he is best known for playing the role of “Ritchie Valens” in the Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre’s production of “The Buddy Holly Story.” Maines also loves fishing and being with his family for any activity.
