FREDERICK, Md. — Freshman Isaac Swanson (Clearfield) added a second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimmer of the Week honor to his rookie resume for Penn State Altoona by winning three races in the Lions’ 131-101 victory over host Hood Saturday.
Swanson touched first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.15 seconds), 200 free (1:47.16) and 100 backstroke (54.62).
He also gave the Lions’ 200 medley relay team (1:46.73) the lead with a 26.30 butterfly split, but the Hood foursome came from behind to eke out the win.
Penn State Altoona finished 7-2 in duals with a four-meet winning streak.

CLARION — Juniors Tate Swanson (Clearfield) and Hayden Steiner (Clearfield) helped Clarion close out its dual-meet slate with a Senior Night 166-120 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference win over Edinboro Friday.
Swanson placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (22.58 seconds) and 100 free (49.75), swam the third leg in 22.29 for the Golden Eagle ‘A’ 20 free relay team that finished second in 1:30.65. and anchored the ‘B’ 200 medley relay quartet (1:41.11) with a 22.09 split.
Steiner finished fourth in the 200 butterfly (2;08.94) and fifth in the 100 fly (57.32).
Steiner and Swanson swam the last two splits in 24.76 and 22.09, respectively. For the ‘B’ 200 medley foursome that placed fourth in 1:41.11.
The Golden Eagles, who were 2-2 in PSAC meets and 3-3 overall, were one of five teams in the Western Pennsylvania Invitational hosted by Pitt Saturday.
Swanson was 15th (1:07.85) and Steiner 16th (1:11.08) in the 100 breaststroke, while Steiner placed 19th (56.98) and Swanson 28th (1:00.06) in the 100 fly.
They were on the ‘B’ 200 medley team that finished 12th in 1;42.80, Steiner with a 24.76 third leg and Swanson with a 22.78 anchor.
Swanson also turned in a 49.24 third leg for the ‘B’ 400 free relay foursome that placed 12th in 3:26.68.

GREENSBURG — Senior Cody Spaid (Clearfield) tossed in a career-high 24 points, including 10 layups, and also had team-highs of eight rebounds and three steals to help propel Pitt-Greensburg past visiting Hilbert 84-81 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Saturday.
The 6-7 forward missed only one shot from the field and sank four of five free throws in his best overall performance of the season. He also had a pair of assists.
Spaid was coming off a 15-point, five-rebound, one-assist effort last Wednesday when the Bobcats outlasted Franciscan 84-79 at Steubenville, Ohio.
Two nights earlier at Buffalo, N.Y., he registered 14 points, five rebounds and a team-high four assists in a 98-82 loss to D’Youville that dropped the Bobcats (15-3) into second place, where they reside at 11-2.
Spaid made 23 of 28 field goal attempts in the three games to hike his percentage to 64.7, third in the AMCC. His 53 points boosted his average into double figures at 10.8 for 197 points.
He ranks in the AMCC top 10 in rebounding average (7.31) with 131 and assists with 55. He also has 15 steals and 15 blocks.

WRESTLING
ERIE — Sophomore 197-pounder Luke McGonigal (Clearfield) elevated to No. 8 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division II individual rankings in mid-week, posted his 11th dual meet win without a loss by rolling up a 16-0 technical fall in 6:03 against Alexi Castro of Shippensburg Saturday.
The Lakers, who moved up three places to No. 11 in last week’s team rankings, triumphed 42-6 on Senior Day for a 9-2 record. They are 3-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference after beating the Raiders.
McGonigal is 18-5 overall with 17 wins in his last 19 matches.

EDINBORO — Freshman Taye Lynch (Clearfield) of Slippery Rock competed unattached in his college debut at the Al Hall Freedom Games hosted by Edinboro Saturday and placed second in the triple jump by clearing 13.07 meters (42 feet, 10½ inches).
