MEN’S SWIMMING
HUNTINGDON — Freshman Isaac Swanson (Clearfield) continued the outstanding start to his rookie season for Penn State Altoona with three more wins in the Lions’ 96-50 victory over host Juniata Saturday, and that performance was rewarded with Monday’s announcement of him being named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week.
Swanson shined in the Lions’ non-conference dual meet by touching the wall in 2:19.37 in the 200-meter individual medley and 4:23.03 in the 400 freestyle before triggering the 200 freestyle relay team’s win in 1:48.77 with a 25.13 first leg.
Last month, Swanson was a member of four winning teams as Penn State Altoona outpointed the hosts 136-74 at the Pitt-Bradford relays and followed up two weeks later with two individual and one relay win in AMCC victories over Pitt-Bradford 369-282 and SUNY Delhi 379-315.
In the Lions’ first outing, he led off with a 25.44 backstroke sprint in the 200-yard medley(1:49.38), posted a 22.11 anchor leg in the 200 freestyle (1:50.86), swam the opening leg in the 400 medley (4:00.56) and handled the third split in the 400 freestyle (3:25.71).
Swanson claimed firsts in the 200 freestyle (1:50.62) and 100 backstroke (55.90) and then swam the anchored the victorious 400 freestyle relay team (3:43.12) against Pitt-Bradford and SUNY Delhi.

ERIE — Sophomore Chase Bietz (Clearfield) was one of three triplewinners for undefeated Penn State Behrend in a 156-70 victory over Baldwin Wallace Saturday.
He touched first in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:09.81 for his seventh individual win of the season.
In the Lions’ relays sweep, Bietz swam the breaststroke leg in 26.68 seconds for the 200 medley foursome that was timed in 1:58.65 and turned n a 21.86 anchor split for the 200 freestyle quartet to stop the clock at 1:28.87.7
The Lions are 4-0.

BLOOMSBURG — Sophomores Hayden Steiner (Clearfield) and Tate Swanson (Clearfield) contributed individual and relay points in Clarion’s 123-82 loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference foe Bloomsburg Saturday.
Steiner placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly in 55.78 seconds while Swanson was fifth in the 50 freestyle in 23.52.
They teamed up in two relays, Steiner with a 28.95 breaststroke split and Swanson with a 22.61 freestyle anchor leg for the 200 medley foursome that finished third in 1:42.41 and Steiner with a 23.68 second leg and Swanson with a 22.67 third leg for the ‘B 200 freestyle quartet that placed fourth in 1:32.87.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
GREENSBURG — Sophomore goalkeeper Madi Jones (Clearfield) recorded a season-high eight saves against regular season titlist Pitt-Greensburg Saturday, but the Bobcats were able to edge Penn State Behrend 3-2 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships final.
The Lions, who finished second to the Bobcats, had advanced to the championship game by nipping No. 3 seed Mount Aloysius 3-2 in overtime last Wednesday with Jones making one save.
On Monday, the 10-7-2 Lions received an invitation to play in the 2019 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Tournament as the Pod 1 No. 4 seed and will go on the road to meet Centennial Conference runner-up and No. 1 seed McDaniel (Md.) Saturday.
Pfeiffer (N.C.) and Shenandoah (Va.) are paired in the other Pod 1 semifinal to set Sunday’s final. The champs of four pods will move on to the tourney semifinals Nov. 23.
Jones is 10-3-2 in her 15 starts for the Lions. She has been in goal for 1,293.04 minutes, allowing 17 goals for a 1.18 goals-against average that is tied for fourth place in the AMCC. She is tied for second in wins.

INDIANA — Freshman forward/midfielder Alayna Ryan (Clearfield) got off one shot, on goal, as Indiana University of Pennsylvania outshot visiting Clarion 20-5 but was blanked 1-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division finale for both teams Saturday.
Ryan had made her 18th start last Wednesday when the Crimson Hawks were shut out 5-0 at Mercyhurst.
Despite the pair of setbacks, the Crimson Hawks (10-8) qualified for the PSAC Championships by finishing fourth in the West Division at 8-8. They drew division champ Slippery Rock (15-3, 14-2 PSAC-West) in the quarterfinals.
Ryan is IUP’s No. 3 pointmaker with 10 on three goals, two of them gamewinners, and four assists.

FOOTBALL
LOCK HAVEN — Senior linebacker Christian Rumery (Clearfield) made one solo tackle for Lock Haven Saturday when the Bald Eagles closed their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division slate with a 56-14 loss to West Chester at Hubert Jack Stadium.
Rumery has four solo stops and four assists in his 10 appearances for the 1-9 Bald Eagles, who wound up 0-7 in the PSAC-East.

WRESTLING
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Junior 149-pounder Josiah McClarren (Clearfield) moved up to 157 and won three of five matches at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational Saturday.
He major decisioned Micah Mydloski of Heidelberg 15-6, pinned Preston Rogers of Lycoming at 5:23 and racked up a 19-2 technical fall against Jake Longerman of Thiel.
His losses were by fall to Dylan Van Sickell of Stevens Tech at 1:15 and Jonah Schechtman of Stevens Tech at 3:52.
McClarren was 2-3 in dual meets and 5-5 overall last season after going 2-3 in duals and 3-5 overall for the Warriors following his transfer from Pitt-Johnstown midway through the previous season.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
LOCK HAVEN — Freshman Jeremiah Vezza (Clearfield) concluded his rookie season for Gannon by running the 10-kilometer Lock Haven University course in 36:27.0 at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships Saturday.
Vezza placed 116th among the 153 starters from 17 teams.
The Golden Knights finished eighth with a 211 score.
