CLEARFIELD – A Woodland man caught by police with homemade explosives and drugs pleaded guilty Monday.
Gene William Robbins, 39, was sentenced by President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman to 18 months to three years in state prison for felony prohibited offensive weapon, felony possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the affidavit, when police stopped a vehicle driven by Robbins on June 18, an officer noticed two homemade explosive devices on the front passenger seat. The round explosives appeared to have wicks hot glued on them.
The trunk was also full of fireworks.
There were several problems with the vehicle including an expired inspection sticker, Robbins did not have the title for the vehicle, which he said he bought in Philadelphia the previous day for $800 and there was no insurance on the car.
When asked what were in the explosive devices, he said black powder and went on to say he found them in his shed.
After it was determined the devices were illegal, they were seized.
Robbins refused a search of the vehicle and the officers then applied for a warrant to look for more explosives.
The initial search did not uncover any other explosives, but drugs were spotted. Another warrant was then executed on the vehicle with the intention of looking for drugs.
Officers found an ounce of methamphetamine, a syringe loaded with an unknown substance and 90 stamp bags of heroin, according to the affidavit.
In a second case, he pleaded guilty to four counts each of felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, felony criminal use of communication facility, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
For these cases, he was given a consecutive period of 30 months to six years in state prison, which gives him a total sentence of four to nine years in state prison.
According to the affidavit in the second case, in February of 2018, Robbins sold methamphetamine to a confidential informant on several occasions.
