CLEARFIELD – The former assistant technology coordinator for the West Branch Area School District accused of having sexual relations with a student has entered an open plea of guilt.

Michael W. Narehood, 23, of Karthaus pleaded guilty Monday morning to felony involuntary deviate sexual intercourse-person less than 16 years of age (two counts); statutory sexual assault; aggravated indecent assault-complainant less than 16; school-intercourse/sexual contact with student; and corruption of minors, plus misdemeanor indecent assault person less than 16 years of age.

Narehood’s three-day jury trial was scheduled to commence Monday morning; however, he opted to enter the open plea of guilt before Judge Paul E. Cherry. An open plea of guilt means the terms of sentencing are up to the court’s discretion.

Narehood will have to undergo a Megan’s Law assessment, and will be scheduled for sentencing in 60 to 90 days, or following the completion of his pre-sentencing investigation.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on May 10, the victim went to Narehood’s office after the school day. He started kissing her and then engaged in sexual acts with her.

During an interview, Narehood confessed to having sexual relations with the victim, state police said.
