CLEARFIELD – The 2019 Clearfield County Fair Susquehanna River Arts Center of Clearfield (SRACC) Award has been given to Sue Shaffner of Rockton.
She took first place in the adult beginner’s mixed media category with her ‘Bunny in the Moon.’ Shaffner reported “what a surprise” when I picked up my ‘Bunny in the Moon’ painting.
She shared that: “Years ago, the McDonald Observatory introduced me to the Native American ‘rabbit in the moon’ and a recent geology course kindled an interest in moon geography.
“I wanted to teach this to my granddaughter, so we both painted semi-accurate moon maps, then she added a fox while I added a bunny.
“I labeled the seas and craters and the Apollo 11 landing site (happy fiftieth anniversary!) with a Sharpie marker.”
SRACC was impressed with Shaffner’s attention to detail and creativity. The center also believes this could be the beginning of a great illustration for a storybook.
The community is encouraged to join the art center to exhibit its art and share expertise with others. People can stop by the center on Market Street next to the Ritz Theater.
