CLEARFIELD – A Morrisdale man accused of possessing a large quantity of methamphetamine was sentenced to state prison Monday.
After a trial in July, Brandon J. Kifer, 39, was found guilty of felony manufacture/delivery/possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor counts of knowingly possessing a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was acquitted on an additional charge of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
The charges stem from an encounter Kifer had with Lawrence Township police in the parking lot of Wal-Mart where he was asleep behind the wheel of his truck in December.
When police searched him, they found 53.3 grams of methamphetamine and over $1,300 in cash, according to information revealed in the trial.
On Monday, President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman gave him a lengthy state prison sentence of five to 10 years.
Prior to sentencing, his attorney, Leanne Nedza noted that Kifer has attended drug programs at the jail where he was an asset in one of the classes.
Kifer himself admitted he had lived “a sinful life” and is now trying to be a better person.
It was noted that Kifer is on probation for a drug case in Allegheny County from 2012. He is expected to receive an additional sentence there for violating his probation.
