CLEARFIELD – A new police car is on order for the Lawrence Township Police Department.
One of the police vehicles was involved in a traffic accident at the Hyde Bridge earlier this year when the officer was responding to a police chase in progress and collided with another vehicle. The police cruiser was totaled in the accident.
The supervisors announced that the department would be purchasing a Dodge Charger at $28,000 from C. Classic Dodge in Clearfield. This cost does not include the additional work needed to ready the vehicle for use by the department.
The township also received a check from the insurance company for the damaged vehicle for $28,315.16.
The supervisors also approved purchasing the 2013 mini excavator the township has been renting and using at a cost of $20,021.06 and selling the Dynapac roller for $20,000.
The Michael F. Sicks Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1785 has requested permission to transfer a liquor license from their North Third Street location to their Industrial Park Road location.
The township is required to hold a public hearing on the matter and the supervisors scheduled the hearing for Aug. 6 at 6:15 p.m.
Finally, the township approved purchase of a HAAS Alert system for two vehicles at the Mill Road Fire Company and one at the Hyde Fire Company.
Supervisor Jeremy Ruffner explained that the Mill Road company has been using the system on a free trial.
The system works with multiple companies to provide alerts to vehicle GPS units when emergency vehicles are responding to an accident, and also alerts the state Department of Transportation. It is especially useful when responding to accidents on Interstate 80.
Ruffner said the system has worked very well for Mill Road and he recommended a five year agreement. For the three apparatus, the cost will be $4,737 for five years and if they decide to add more, the cost would be $315 per vehicle. The money will come out of the fire budget.
