CLEARFIELD – Two people were arrested following a high-speed police pursuit Friday morning in Clearfield, Lawrence Township police say.

According to police, a traffic violation was observed and officers conducted a U-turn on state Route 879. This caused the driver of the suspect vehicle to flee at a high rate of speed, leave their lane multiple times and to commit numerous traffic violations.

The driver led officers to the Red Roof Inn, where they reportedly continued to flee at a high rate through the parking lot to an area behind the hotel building.

The suspect vehicle finally came to rest, and the driver – later identified as Maryjayne Liegey, 19, of Frenchville – and her passenger – later identified as Logan Knipple, 22, of Philipsburg – attempted to exit and flee on foot, police said.

Both reentered the vehicle upon being ordered to by officers. Further investigation revealed Liegey had a suspended license, and Knipple had four active warrants for various criminal- and vehicle-related offenses.

It was also found that Liegey and Knipple had allegedly just stolen merchandise from the Wal-Mart Supercenter. Their vehicle was towed from the scene, and both were housed in county jail.

Liegey has been charged with fleeing and eluding an officer, retail theft and receiving stolen property, plus multiple traffic offenses. Knipple has been charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property.
