CLEARFIELD – Tuesday was Primary Election Day for the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  Voters determined the candidates who will appear on the ballot in November’s General Election.
Clearfield County has 44,392 registered voters with 23,742 being Republican and 15,573 being Democrat.
Polling places saw a total of 10,955 voters, a 24.68 percent turnout. Â Of the ballots cast, 6,859 were by Republicans and 4,096 were by Democrats.
Two major county races were for commissioner (vote for two; elect three) and district attorney.
In the race for the commissioner’s office, eight candidates – five Republicans and three Democrats – jockeyed for the four spots on November’s ballot.
On the Republican side, incumbent running mates John A. Sobel (3,053 votes/26.10 percent) and Tony Scotto (2,798 votes/23.92 percent) won out.
Candidates Lisa Kovalick (2,258 votes/36.32 percent) and David S. Glass (2,141 votes/34.44 percent) took the Democratic side to advance.
For district attorney’s office, Republican Ryan Sayers (3,626 votes/56.38 percent) beat his challenger Warren B. Mikesell II (2,649 votes/41.19 percent) by 977 votes.
Sayers will meet Democratic incumbent William A. Shaw Jr., who was unopposed in the Primary, this fall. Shaw received 3,375 votes on Tuesday.
All results are unofficial until certified by the Clearfield County Board of Elections. These results do not reflect total write-in votes, which will be available at the later date.
