CLEARFIELD – A tax appeal for property in Sandy Township has been withdrawn.
At Tuesday’s Clearfield County Commissioners’ meeting, Solicitor Kim Kesner reported that a tax appeal, which had been filed by the owners of the Wal-Mart property in Sandy Township, has been withdrawn.
Kesner said there has been an “extraordinary amount of tax appeals for commercial properties for 2019.” He said the county, the DuBois Area School District and the Sandy Township Supervisors had been prepared to fight the appeal.
According to previously-published GANT News articles, appeals had been filed regarding the Wal-Mart and Lowe’s stores in both Lawrence and Sandy Townships, Sandy Plaza, DuBois Mall and the vacant property owned by Weis Market in Decatur Township that was formerly occupied by County Market.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Kesner said a stipulation and order was entered by the Court of Common Pleas of Clearfield County in an appeal for the DuBois Wal-Mart, which was brought by the county and DuBois Area School District in September of 2015.
According to previous articles, the county’s current assessed value is $1.7 million and Wal-Mart’s position was that it should’ve been $767,000.
In other business, the commissioners voted to approve:
- a rental agreement with the Clearfield County Fair and Park Board for the Veteran’s Job Fair on Oct. 22.
- liquid fuel allocations in the amount of $3,000 for Grampian Borough; $3,000 for Ramey Borough; $3,000 for Irvona Borough; $4,617.31 for Penn Township; $3,000 for Glen Hope Borough and $4,617.31 for Covington Township (Commissioner John Sobel abstained from the Covington Township vote).
- hiring Jaden Cunningham, Alex Gudalis and Justin Millinder as part-time 911 telecommunicators, effective April 29; Jared Farneth, as part-time corrections officer at the jail, effective April 29; Travis Ogden and Nathan Lash, as community service interns in the probation department, effective May 6; John Crance, as temporary fiscal operations officer for CYS, effective May 14; Gregory Neeper, Deputy Sheriff, effective May 20, and Barbara Carlson, secretary for Judge Patrick Ford’s office, effective May 20.
