FLINTON – The Glendale High School Drama Club, under the direction of co-directors Lawrence and Jennifer Putorek, is proudly presenting its 13th annual spring musical: “Sweeney Todd: School Edition.”
The show is scheduled for both April 12 and 13, beginning at 7 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on April 14. Ticket fees are $8 for adults and $5 for students, while children five years and under are admitted for free.
Sweeney, the main character of the show, has been around as part of serial stories beginning in mid-1840’s British literature—evolving eventually into “Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”
This original story was turned first into a play and its popularity soared in 1979 when it was adapted into a successful Tony-award winning musical by Stephen Sondheim.
The Putoreks enthusiastically commented: “Our kids have been working incredibly hard on this show, and we are very proud of their work so far.
“Having poured months into their character’s development, lines and music, the students are anxious to soon bring this musical thriller to life.”
Having directed 15 total shows at Glendale, Mr. and Mrs. Putoreks also cannot wait until opening weekend. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 814-687-5035 or are available at the door.
