CLEARFIELD – Lowe’s and Wal-Mart of Clearfield have filed tax appeals.
At Monday night’s regular meeting, the Clearfield school board voted to approve the district’s share of the costs to have appraisals done on both properties.
The board approved Valbridge Property Advisors to provide appraisals in connection with the tax assessment appeals for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Lowe’s Home Center LLC.
Both were in the amount of $4,000, or $8,000 in total. This cost will be shared by the district, Clearfield County and Lawrence Township proportionately based upon the percentage of taxes received from real estate.
According to a previous GANT News report, because the school district has the highest millage, it will pay the greatest share of the appraisal cost, while the township will pay the least, having the lowest millage of the three.
Superintendent Terry Struble said that if Lowe’s and Wal-Mart are both successful in their tax appeals, the district stands to lose approximately $132,000 in revenue.
Attorney Brendan Moran of the Beard Legal Group in Altoona is handling the matter on behalf of the district.
Lawrence Township has already approved moving forward with both property appraisals, stated the previous GANT News report.
