CLEARFIELD – The National Weather Service in State College has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for portions of central Pennsylvania, including the Clearfield and surrounding areas.
This advisory will be in effect from 7 a.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Thursday Snow will vary in intensity, and then mixed precipitation is expected.
Total snow and sleet accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected. There may be localized amounts up to 6 inches south of Interstate 80, and ice accumulations of around one-tenth of an inch.
The heaviest snow will fall at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour for three or four hours during the late morning and early afternoon hours.
It will change over to sleet in the afternoon, and then over to lighter freezing rain by Wednesday evening, according to the NWS’ advisory.
The ice will result in difficult travel conditions, including during the evening commute on Wednesday. The NWS says motorists should be prepared for reduced visibilities at times.
PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission remind motorists to adjust speeds based upon driving conditions as winter weather impacts roadways.
