The Clearfield County Public Library’s campaign to raise money for a new mobile library services van has ended with over $110,000 collected for the project.

The county bookmobile has been sidelined for a few years because of several mechanical problems. When the cost of repairing it became impractical, it was decided that the best option was to purchase a new vehicle that could provide a variety of services.

The 2018 Ford Transit van will require less maintenance, have lower insurance rates, and can be driven by any of the library staff. It was custom built into a specialized mobile library services van.

It arrived at the Curwensville Public Library in October.

Two of the last donations came from the S&T Bank in DuBois ($5,000) and the DuBois Area United Way ($2,000).

“We would like to thank everyone for their support during the campaign,” said CCPL Board President Fredric J. Ammerman.

The Clearfield County Public Library covers approximately 46,000 residents who are not served by the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, the Curwensville Branch Library or the DuBois Public Library.

In addition to its regular stops, visits by the van can be arranged at local senior centers, nursing homes, pre-schools, parks or group gatherings.

The library is also planning on creating partnerships with other local non-profit groups to present a variety of programs in the area.

The new van is expected to begin its travels in the spring.
