BURNSIDE TOWNSHIP – A 57-year-old woman was killed in an early-morning crash Sunday on state Route 219 in Burnside Township.
According to Punxsutawney-based state police, at approximately 1:43 a.m., Penny L. Johnston of Fairmount City was traveling south along the Patchin Highway (SR 219), south of Solley Road, in Burnside Township, Clearfield County.
Johnston’s Kia Sorento was traveling at approximately 45 miles per hour when it traveled off the west shoulder of the roadway.
The vehicle then traveled over an embankment and approximately 244 feet through a yard before striking a residence.
Johnston was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clearfield County Coroner. She was wearing her seatbelt.
She was the only occupant of the vehicle. The residence was also unoccupied at the time of the crash, according to the report.
State police were assisted at the scene by Clearfield Emergency Medical Services, Cherry Tree Volunteer Fire Department, Scott’s Auto Towing and the Clearfield County Coroner.
