CLEARFIELD – On Wednesday morning, board members of the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority held a brief meeting.

The board heard from two guest speakers, DuBois City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio and Matt Checcio.   Both discussed the economic impact of the 2018 Small College World Series.

It was reported that there was 1,530 total room nights with 839 being by participants and 691 by non-local spectators. In addition, the average length of stay was 2.5 days and $35-40 was spent per day per person in the local economy.

Subsequently, the total economic impact was $444,564.89 between non-local participants, non-local spectators and non-local sources.

The board also discussed marketing and the budget during Executive Director Josiah Jones’ report. Jones indicated the authority’s marketing efforts have been effective and there has been progress.

Jones also has plans to try to get the current state scenic byway on the map as a national scenic byway.

He will be working with County Planning Director Jodi Brennan on grants to help CCRTA revamp its current byway with possible interpretive signage and other aesthetic features.

Jones also reported they had hosted the PA Wilds board meeting this past Monday. He said the authority has plans to become more involved with the PA Wilds.
