HENDERSON TOWNSHIP – Punxsutawney-based state police say a one-vehicle accident occurred on Saturday afternoon on Paradise Road, in Henderson Township, Jefferson County.

According to state police, around 4:10 p.m. Saturday, a 1999 Dodge Dakota was traveling southbound on Township Road 616 (Paradise Road).

The pick-up was traveling straight and downhill on Paradise Road when the driver – 55-year-old Jerry S. Stewart of Stump Creek – lost control of the vehicle, drove onto the southbound shoulder, then drove across the travel lanes and hit a culvert on the northbound side of the road.

After hitting the culvert, the pick-up rolled onto its driver’s side and slid for approximately 60 feet. The vehicle came to a final rest on the northbound shoulder of the highway, facing north.

Stewart suffered suspected serious injuries and was transported by STAT MedEvac to UPMC Altoona.

He was not using a seat-belt. He was charged with a traffic violation. The investigation remains open pending further investigation by PSP Punxsutawney.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Rebuck Southside Towing.

Assisting at the scene were Sykesville Volunteer Fire Department, Big Run Volunteer Fire Department, DUSAN Ambulance Service, Sykesville Ambulance Service, Rebuck’s Southside Towing and STAT MedEvac.
