FREDERICK, Md. — Bryce Timko turned in the fourth consecutive quality start in the Frederick Wood Bat Tournament for the Clearfield American Legion baseball team Sunday morning as the Chiefs tuned up for Monday’s semifinals with a 6-2 win over Frederick at Loats Park.

They had locked up another overnight stay with three victories on the first two days of the 14-team tourney.

Clearfield (9-5), the Bracket 1 winner, will take on Bracket 4 representative Brooklawn (N.J.) Post 72 at 11:30.

The other semi pits Cecil County (Md.) of Bracket 2 against Delaware of Bracket 3 at 9 a.m.

First pitch for the championship game is set for 2 p.m.

Clearfield, which defeated Cecil County 11-1 in five innings Saturday, got to three Francis Scott Key Post 11 pitchers for 12 hits with Timko, Zane Morgan, Jake Sorbera and Reese Wilson registering two apiece.

The John Lewis Shade Post 6 Chiefs had six through the first five innings and led only 2-1 before making Timko’s job a little easier with two runs in the sixth.

An error and a walk led to run-scoring singles by Morgan and Timko, who then finished his stint on the mound by allowing Frederick’s other marker.

He surrendered five hits and three walks while striking out five for his second win in three decisions.

After RBI singles by Harrison Peacock and Wilson around a Frederick double play padded the cushion to four runs in the top of the seventh, Thayne Morgan relieved and closed out Clearfield’s fifth consecutive victory, allowing just one hit.

Both teams scored in the first frame, the Chiefs on a Timko single after Zane Morgan reached on a forceout, stole second and continued to third on an error and the tourney hosts on Connor McCormick’s RBI double.

Timko and McCormick dueled into the fourth, when Sorbera doubled and Hunter Dixon singled to break the tie and tag the latter with the loss.

The Chiefs then tallied pairs of runs off relievers Tanner Dixon and Stefan Anderson in their last two at-bats.
