CLEARFIELD – Motorists are warned to watch for children in Clearfield Borough.

At Thursday’s Clearfield Borough Council work session, Police Chief Vince McGinnis said with school out for the summer, kids are out playing in their yards and in the parks around the borough.

He encouraged motorists to be watchful of children. He said there have been a lot of children riding bicycles and scooters, as well as chasing balls into the roads.

He said motorists should watch their speed, particularly around the parks and the Clearfield Riverwalk.

McGinnis also said the officers were receiving a lot of complaints about kids being out after dark. He said there have been incidents where the kids were causing problems in the borough.

McGinnis said he wanted to remind parents that the officers will be enforcing the curfew within the borough.

He said on weekdays (Monday through Thursday and on Sunday) the curfew is 10 p.m. He said on weekends (Friday and Saturday), the curfew is 11 p.m.

Also at the meeting, Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott said the Salvation Army will be holding their Literacy and Lunch program again this year.  She said the group meets in Edgewood from 12 p.m. – 12:30 p.m. and in Kurtz Park from 12:45 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.

Stott said the Salvation Army provides a nice lunch, along with activity books for the kids and the volunteers read while the participants enjoy their lunch. She encouraged all residents to attend.
