CLEARFIELD – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Clearfield County DUI Strike Force have announced a regional impaired driving enforcement initiative as part of the Cinco De Mayo holiday weekend.
During the mobilization, police will conduct roving patrols across Clearfield County.
Drivers are encouraged to plan a ride ahead of time, use public transportation or take advantage of the SaferRide App.
The app gives users the option to choose a taxi service, call a preprogrammed contact or select a map of the area.
According to PennDOT 2017 data, there were 67 alcohol-related crashes in Clearfield County, resulting in three fatalities and three serious injuries. Additionally, there were 12,146 statewide crashes where at least one driver involved was suspected of drug or alcohol impairment.
