KNOX TOWNSHIP – Clearfield-based state police are seeking the public’s assistance with locating Dale E. Shaffer, 35, of Olanta, who fled after allegedly assaulting and trying to disarm a trooper during a traffic stop Monday.

Shaffer has been charged by Trooper Jared Wolff with felony aggravated assault and disarming a law enforcement officer through the office of Magisterial District Judge James Glass.

Shaffer has also been charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of children (two counts), simple assault and fleeing or attempting to elude an officer and one summary.

Shaffer reportedly fled at approximately 12:30 p.m. from the area of 1935 Clark Rd., Knox Township, Clearfield County, according to a news release issued by state police.

He assaulted a trooper and attempted to remove their duty weapon during a traffic stop. He fled the scene and left behind a 2-year-old and a 3-year-old in his car, state police say.

He is described as standing 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 200-230 pounds. He has short brown hair and a medium build; he was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with a black hat.

State police say that Shaffer has an active arrest warrant and is known to have “violent tendencies.”

State troopers, along with a PSP helicopter, are actively searching for Shaffer. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at 814-857-3800 or 911.
