CLEARFIELD – A 34-year-old DuBois man, Jason Schoening, is wanted for not appearing for court on firearms- and drug-related charges, announced District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. on Monday.

On Aug. 2, 2017, Officer David Tracy of the DuBois City police charged Schoening with persons not to possess firearms, F2; carrying firearm without a license, F3; prohibited offensive weapon, M1; possession of a small amount of marijuana, M; use/possession of drug paraphernalia, M; altered documents and plates, M1; and related vehicle code offenses.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on July 28, 2017, police received a suspicious persons report and conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Schoening. He was stopped for an expired registration; the inspection sticker also didn’t belong to the vehicle.

When contact was made with Schoening, he appeared to be “extremely nervous.” Police determined he had a suspended license and that his passenger had an active warrant. Both were removed from the vehicle.

After he exited the vehicle, Schoening retrieved a pair of headphones from a backpack. However, he denied that he owned it. A search of the backpack allegedly revealed a sawed-off 12-guage shotgun, suspected marijuana and paraphernalia.

Tracy later learned that Schoening had been observed leaving a residence, and he was carrying the backpack. A criminal history check indicated that Schoening is prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.

A preliminary hearing was held Aug. 11, 2017, at which time all charges were held to court. On March 8, Schoening failed to appear at criminal call and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Schoening is described as a Caucasian male standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Anyone with knowledge of Schoening’s location is asked to call Clearfield County Crime Stoppers at 800-376-4700. All calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted by visiting the Clearfield County District Attorney Web site at “www.ClearfieldDA.org” and selecting “Report A Crime.”
