NEWBURG – Work to construct a box culvert on Route 36 in Clearfield County is scheduled to start next week, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

The box culvert will replace a metal pipe arch about 2.5 miles south of the village of Newburg, near the Five Points intersection.

As work gets under way April 2, crews will be working on tree removal, erosion and sedimentation controls and construction of a temporary run-around. The temporary roadway should be in use by mid-April.

During initial work, traffic will be controlled with daylight signing and flaggers in the roadway to enforce an alternating traffic pattern.

Project work includes removal of the current metal pipe, installation of the new box culvert, paving, and miscellaneous items. The project is expected to be complete in August.

All work is weather and schedule dependent. Francis J. Palo Inc. of Clarion is the contractor on this $973,000 job. Drivers are reminded to move through work zones with caution, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 850 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA Web site.
