CLEARFIELD – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will re-start bridge preservation work next week in the Clearfield area.

This repair and preservation work began in summer of 2017 on four bridges located on Route 879 (Clearfield Bypass) between Park Avenue and River Road. This work will keep the four structures in useful service for years to come.

Starting April 2, drivers will encounter lane closures on the bridge that spans Route 153 and on the bridge that spans Fire Tower Road.

Two-way traffic will be maintained through the work zones, with one lane in each direction. Motorists should be alert for slow moving traffic in and near the work zones. All work is weather and schedule dependent.

Crews will also be working underneath these bridges, as well as the bridge spanning Route 322 near the Clearfield Mall.

Motorists should be alert for workers, signage, and lane restrictions on Route 153, Fire Tower Road and Route 322.

Swank Construction Co., of New Kensington, Pa., is the contractor on this $2.6 million project.

Work will include deck repairs, rebar installation, concrete repairs joint sealing, strip seal dam replacement, epoxy surface treatment for bridge decks, paving, guiderail improvements and miscellaneous items.

PennDOT reminds drivers to be cautious in work zones, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.

For more information on projects occurring or being bid this year, those made possible by or accelerated by the state transportation funding plan (Act 89), or those on the department’s Four and Twelve Year Plans, visit www.projects.penndot.gov.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 850 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA Web site.
