CURWENSVILLE – Several items were discussed during Monday night’s regular meeting of Curwensville Borough Council, including an agreement regarding a stormwater project.
Aaron Kerin of EADS Group engineers reminded council that the borough had advertised for bids to do a stormwater project on Anderson and Bradley streets to conduct water from sump pumps and springs to new pipes and inlets, tying the new system into an existing outlet on Susquehanna Avenue.
The project is to be paid for with Community Development Block Grant money that was originally earmarked for another project.
The borough has been working with county planning and the state Department of Community and Economic Development to free up the money to be used for this project instead. The amount is $100,000.
The council agreed to enter into an agreement with EADS to proceed with the project. The vote was five to one with council member Joe Wills voting no.
Since they don’t have final confirmation from county planning that the money is available, Wills said he was not comfortable proceeding with the project.
Mayor John Adams said he spoke with representatives of the Clearfield County Conservation District about creating an area for borough residents to dispose of yard waste. He said the biggest requirement is to have the site at least 50 feet away from a riverbank.
There is an area at Irvin Park that would work and there would be someone available to unlock the gate and check what was being disposed of.
The park is open May 1 through Labor Day and Adams said they could have a few Saturdays in October and November designated for disposal of leaves. Â Adams also said he had a list of items that would be permitted at the site.
Under the police report, council approved rejoining the Drug Task Force. Council member Tom Carfley raised a concern of high school students using their cars to push other cars when leaving the school.
Chief Mark Kelly said he would look into the matter. The borough has also advertised for a part-time police officer.
Council also learned the fire company held training in Arnoldtown and is planning some water rescue training. Council also plans to open bids for paving at the next council meeting on April 9.
