CLEARFIELD – Several items were discussed at Tuesday’s Lawrence Township Supervisor’s meeting, including police statistics, dirt and gravel road bids, laterals and summer hours for the road crew.

The road crew submitted a request to start their summer hours of four days per week and 10 hours per day beginning April 2.

Through April the hours will run 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Beginning the first full week of May, the hours will be 5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Supervisor Randy Powell later motioned that when the road crew goes to four days a week, the office continue to remain open Monday through Friday.

He said in the summer, he has passed by the building and seen people trying to gain access to the office.

Secretary Barb Shaffner said when they first started the four-day weeks, she and the code enforcement officer at that time would trade off on Fridays and they rarely had phone calls or people coming in. Powell asked that they have the office open anyhow, and the motion passed.

Police stats continue to rise. Criminal arrests for February were 60 compared to 53 during the same time last year. Traffic arrests were 163 versus 86, traffic stops were 150 versus 64 and warrants served were 85 versus 25.

Chief Doug Clark said the warrants served have a lot to do with the number of traffic stops. When officers stop someone, they check for outstanding warrants on that person. Overall there were 815 incidents reported compared to 794 last year. There were also 10 DUIs reported.

Clark also recognized Officer Craig Kanour as the officer of the month. He said his arrests for misdemeanors, felonies, traffic violations, etc. were very good for the month.

Bids for Driving Surface Aggregate of 1,070 ton more or less for Pifer Road were opened. Only two bids were received and the low bid came from Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. at $30.65 per ton or $32,795.50 for the entire project.

During the code enforcement officer’s report, the supervisors learned that about 90 repairs on laterals have been completed in the Hyde area after letters were sent.

Code Officer Debra Finkbeiner said 29 letters are outstanding with 13 of those committed to repairs and 16 with no response. She said there are more people to notify yet and Solicitor James Naddeo said he thought it would be about 160 more letters, more or less.

Residents should be aware that Penelec will be doing some work on March 15 and residents of the Park Avenue Extension area will experience an outage from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The rain date is March16.
