DUBOIS – Charges have been filed against a DuBois woman who allegedly inappropriately touched a 7-year-old boy.

Kelda Jessie Smith, 30, was charged by DuBois City police with a felony count of corruption of minors, and misdemeanor counts of indecent assault person less than 13 years of age and endangering the welfare of children in connection with an incident in November.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, police were called to investigate an allegation of sexual assault by the boy who reported to a care provider that Smith had come into sexual contact while she was babysitting him.

Smith reportedly approached the victim while he was getting dressed in formal clothes and only in his underwear. He told an investigator that Smith used her thumb and finger to touch his private area. The child then ran from the room.

During an interview with police, Smith allegedly admitted to touching the boy’s private area on Nov. 12. She claimed she did it as a joke.

Smith, who is incarcerated at the county jail on $15,000, bail, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Friday during centralized court at District Judge Patrick Ford’s office in DuBois.
