CLEARFIELD – An 18-year-old Clearfield man, Gregory Martell Jr., is wanted for failure to appear for a preliminary hearing in a theft case on Feb. 14, according to District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr.
On Dec. 26, 2017, Sgt. Nathan Curry of the Clearfield Borough police filed a criminal complaint, charging Martell with theft by unlawful taking, M1, and receiving stolen property, M1.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Dec. 21, 2017, the victim arrived at the police station to report that her cell phone, valued at $700, had been stolen from her residence.
Martell stayed at the residence the evening before. When she went to bed, she left her cell phone downstairs, she told police. When she woke up, Martell had already left and her cell phone was allegedly missing.
A witness told police that Martell had the cell phone in his possession and had taken it from the victim.
Police confronted Martell with the provided information. He initially denied taking the cell phone but eventually confessed to the crime.
A preliminary hearing was held Feb. 14, at which time Martell failed to appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Martell is described as a Caucasian male standing 5 feet, 4 inches tall. He has brown hair and eyes.
