CURWENSVILLE — Two underclassmen stole the spotlight on the Curwensville Area High School girls basketball team’s Senior Night as junior Madi Weber burned the Patton Hall nets for a career-high 35 points and sophomore Brianna Swindell broke into double figures for the first time with 15 points to propel the Lady Tide past Sheffield 66-31 Friday night.

The Lady Tide established season highs for points in each of the first two periods for a 34-14 halftime bulge that they expanded to finish with a season-high total, too, in the Allegheny Mountain League game.

“We got off to a slow start, but the girls then played a great game to send the seniors out with a win at their last home game,” Curwensville coach Bob Desmett said.

Seniors Sabrina Spencer and Madison Olson chipped in eight and two points, respectively as the Lady Tide notched their third win in the last five games.

Weber and Swindell matched three field goals, each with a three-pointer, and three free throws to give Curwensville (4-16, 1-8 AML-South Division) a 16-8 lead after eight minutes.

The Lady Tide outscored the Lady Wolverines 18-6 in the second period with Weber and Spencer scoring six points apiece.

Weber, whose previous standard was 30 points set on two occasions, tallied seven of Curwensville’s 10 points in the third quarter before pouring in 14 in the final period.

Sheffield (2-17, 0-8 AML-North Division) got nine points from Mya Grubbs and eight from Eliza Davidson and Lexi Lyon.

The Lady Tide will wind down the season with road trips for a non-league game against Clearfield Tuesday and their AML-South finale against Brockway Wednesday.
