CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough held a short committee meeting Thursday night and discussed several matters.

Police Chief Vincent McGinnis reported borough officers have undergone NARCAN training, and he wanted the council’s approval before officers begin carrying the drug in patrol vehicles.

He said the plan is to carry one dose of the nasal spray in each of the AED bags.

“Our guys are around this stuff every day,” he said, “We’re not just protecting the public, but also our officers.”

Council approved the chief’s request. McGinnis said the drug is supplied at no cost to the borough.

Street Foreman Todd Kling reported the street crew has mostly been working on snow and ice removal, but on nicer days they have also been working on keeping storm inlets clear in an attempt to keep ahead of the problems and prevent minor flooding.

The public safety committee voted to recommend purchase of four tires for the aerial truck and Kling explained what happened to require the purchase.

He said when the truck was being taken to Kaza Fire Equipment Co. in Ebensburg for repairs, one of the tires blew and caused some damage. Kling said it would need repaired at a later date.

He noted that while they were stopped with the blown tire, a nearby house caught fire and the two Clearfield firefighters immediately responded and helped the other departments.

The work the department hoped could be done on the truck at Kaza could not be done, however. He said they will now have to deal with the manufacturer. The four new tires will cost approximately $1,624.

Code Enforcement Officer Larry Mack informed the borough that he has been issuing citations for snow-covered sidewalks. He said he is especially having a problem with businesses not clearing the ADA corners.

Businesses in the borough are not only responsible for the sidewalks in front of their businesses, but also the ADA ramps if the business is on a corner.

The businesses have until Friday afternoon to clear the ramps before he issues citations.

Other committee recommendations for the next meeting include restricting traffic for Relay for Life on June 2 at the Driving Park; closing East Locust and Second streets to Healy Avenue on April 21 for the YMCA Healthy Kids Event; and permission for the police chief to hire a temporary part-time secretary.
