CLEARFIELD – A Kylertown man who tried to smuggle drugs into the county jail pleaded guilty Tuesday during sentencing court.
Brandon Howard Corman, 25, was sentenced to 12 months to three years in state prison for possession of a controlled substance-contraband.
Prior to sentencing, Judge Fredric J. Ammerman stated that drugs have become a “huge problem” at the jail and he is “done with these” cases.
He also noted that he chose to send Corman to state prison due to the nature of the offense and his prior criminal history.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Oct. 14, 2016, police received a call from the Clearfield County Jail regarding an inmate who had attempted to smuggle two packets of a white powdery substance into the jail.
The report from the jail read that an employee was searching Corman for contraband when he found two sealed yellow straws with white powder in the waistband of his gym shorts.
Another corrections officer was called to confirm the find. Corman denied any knowledge of the contraband and stated his girlfriend must have set him up.
The search also uncovered six snuff pouches in his socks. He admitted to trying to smuggle the tobacco into the jail.
He was given a drug test, which was positive for Suboxone.
Later Corman admitted that he tried to smuggle the straw into the jail and that the substance in the straws was Suboxone.
He explained he had been taking the substance for four years without a prescription. He added that he should have been honest with the officers in the first place.
