BELLEFONTE – There aren’t many times a high school team scores 32 points in one quarter, but that’s exactly what the Clearfield Lady Bison put on the scoreboard in the first eight minutes Friday night at Bellefonte, defeating the Lady Raiders 62-60 to pick up the season sweep.
In December, at Clearfield, the Lady Bison knocked off the Lady Raiders 51-42.
Clearfield hit an astounding 13 of 15 field goal attempts in the first quarter, which included four from three point land.
Balanced scoring was also a key in the close win for Clearfield, as four players scored in double figures.
Brooke Cline led Clearfield with 20 points, followed by Alayna Ryan with 16, Megan Durandetta adding 13, and chipping in with 10 was Nikki Brossard.
With a 39-24 margin going into the second half, things looked fairly safe for Clearfield until Bellefonte came out of the break with a different outlook.
The Lady Raiders outscored the Lady Bison 36-23 in the second half to make things interesting and somewhat scary for Clearfield fans. But, in the end, the Bison prevailed and moved to 4-6 in the Mountain League.
Bellefonte now sits at 2-8 in Mountain League action.
Mallorie Smith had 21 points for the Lady Raiders, while Maddie Steiner scored 15 and Maddie Tice tossed in 14 in a losing effort.
Clearfield’s Ryan added 11 assists on the evening.
Bellefonte won the junior varsity game, beating the Lady Bison by a score of 34-17. High scorer for Clearfield was McLain Alt with seven points..
The Lady Bison (6-11) are home on Wednesday against Tyrone, who beat Clearfield earlier in January 60-37. JV action starts at 6 pm with the varsity to immediately follow.
