CLEARFIELD – Superintendent Terry Struble will be out as the top leader of the Clearfield Area School District when his current contract expires at the end of June.

After an approximate 39-minute executive session for “personnel” at Monday night’s school board meeting, a motion was presented and seconded to “open the position of superintendent of schools and to consider other candidates for the position, effective no sooner than July 1, 2018.”

Prior to the board’s action, the solicitor clarified that a “yes” in this roll call vote would be to open the position and not to renew Struble’s contract moving forward. The board would then be in agreement to consider other candidates for his position.

Board members Susan Mikesell, Randy Pataky, Phil Carr, Greg Clarke and Shawna Rothrock all voted in favor. Board members Tim Morgan, Gail Ralston and Dr. Michael Spencer cast the opposing votes. Board member Larry Putt was absent from the meeting.

After the meeting, Struble made the following statement to members of the press: “I have really enjoyed and appreciated my time here in Clearfield.

“I think we have achieved a lot of really great things in five years. We consolidated schools, realigned schools and went through all of those processes.

“We’ve been making some good growth with our students. In the end, that’s what it’s all about. I am happy with where we are going.”

Struble is currently under a five-year contract, which will expire June 30, 2018. He was hired by the district in 2013 and came from the Mount Pleasant Area School District.

“I, obviously, would have wished for something different,” Struble added. “But you know, that’s life living by a contract. They come and they go.”
