The Clearfield County DUI Strike Force will conduct roving patrols Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, through Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, as part of the state’s participation in “Operation Safe Holiday.”

This impaired driving enforcement effort will take place throughout Clearfield County during the New Year’s Holiday weekend.

The Clearfield County DUI Strike Force urges motorists to celebrate responsibly and to read warning labels on prescription or over-the-counter medications.

Certain medications, while legal, can cause impairment, and impaired drivers are incapable of safe driving regardless of the legality of the substance.

Motorists are also encouraged to select a designated driver and always buckle up.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) 2016 data, eight impaired driver crashes occurred in Clearfield County during “Operation Safe Holiday,” which took place between 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2016 and 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2017. There were no fatalities.

“Operation Safe Holiday” is part of the Pennsylvania High Visibility Enforcement Program and is funded partly by PennDOT’s statewide distribution of federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
