WORCESTER, Mass. — Worcester Polytechnic Institute of Technology junior Spencer Herrington (Clearfield) received two more postseason honors last week, the most prestigious being selected as the D3football.com All-East First Team kicker.
The first New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Special Teams Athlete of the Year also was named to the second unit of the 27th annual Steve “Merc” Morris All-Star Team selected by college sports information directors involved with the Worcester Area Football Association.
Herrington, who was tabbed as NEWMAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week four times, was the conference’s No. 1 scoring placekicker with 74 points, which ranked fifth in overall scoring.
He made all 44 extra point attempts, converting six in three games, and 10 of 12 field goals, with a long of 41 yards.
Herrington also averaged 34 yards for 54 punts and 61 yards for three kickoffs.

MEN’S SWIMMING
INDIANA — Freshmen Tate Swanson (Clearfield) and Hayden Steiner (Clearfield) swam the first and third legs, respectively for the 200-yard freestyle relay team that won in 1:29.49 to give Clarion a thrilling 106-99 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory over Indiana University of Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon.
They also earned points in two individual events, Swanson by placing fourth in the 50 free in 23.07 seconds and Steiner by finishing fifth in the 500 free in 5:16.21.
Swanson anchored the Golden Eagles’ 200 medley relay that placed fourth in 1:46.20, while Steiner was sixth in the 200 free with a personal-best 1:57.05.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
GREENSBURG — Sophomore forward/center Cody Spaid (Clearfield) scored 12 points and had three of Pitt-Greensburg’s school-record 13 blocks as the Bobcats leveled their Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference record at 2-2 by defeating D’Youville 84-69 in Chambers Hall Saturday afternoon.
He made five of nine field goal tries and two of three free throws for his season-high point total and also had six rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Spaid had five points, six rebounds, three assists and a personal-best four blocks in the 3-4 Bobcats’ mid-week 73-70 AMCC win at Mount Aloysius.
His season totals show 53 points, 47 rebounds, 15 assists, 12 blocks and three steals.
Spaid ranks sixth in rebounds (6.7 rpg) and third in blocks (1.7 bpg) in the conference.

DUBOIS — Sophomore center Trey Rauckhorst (Curwensville) had four points, five rebounds and two blocks as Penn State DuBois remained unbeaten at home with Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference wins over Penn State Beaver 81-70 and Penn State Greater Allegheny 80-74 last week.
Sophomore guard Caleb Strouse (Clearfield) saw his first action in Friday’s game, pulling down one rebound.
Rauckhorst has totaled 48 points (6.9 ppg), 45 rebounds (6.4 rpg), nine blocks and two assists.
The Lions are 3-2 in the PSUAC and 5-4 overall, with four victories in the Multipurpose Building Gym.
