CLEARFIELD – As cold and flu season arrives, residents of the Clearfield area have a new option to get the care they need.
The Penn Highlands Clearfield Community Medical Building, home to QCare Clearfield, is officially seeing patients today.
A ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony was held Wednesday for the new facility located at 1900 River Rd., in Clearfield, near the Big Lots Plaza.
QCare Clearfield will begin seeing patients today. The facility is open from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., Monday-Saturday and 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Sundays. QCare will be closed Christmas Day, Easter and Thanksgiving.
QCare is a walk-in medical clinic designed to provide fast and convenient care for conditions, such as coughs, earaches, sprains, cuts and other minor injuries or maladies.
Patients can obtain routine physicals for driver’s licenses, sports and tetanus shots.
The new facility will also serve as a hub for the Occupational Health Department, which offers a broad range of services to support regional employers in maintaining a healthy, safe, workforce while reducing over-all costs to the company.
Businesses can work directly with Occupational Health Services to coordinating training for first aid, CPR, blood-borne pathogen training, safety management training and accident prevention, MSHA and OSHA trainings.
QCare also offers hearing screenings, pulmonary function testing, treatment and monitoring of work-related injuries and physicals, including PennDOT physicals.
While QCare is an additional option for medical care, it does not replace emergency care.
Patients experiencing serious symptoms, such as headaches, weakness, chest pain or severe abdominal pain should still seek treatment at a hospital emergency department.
“We’re looking to provide the community with quick access to medical care,” Mark Norman, interim president of Penn Highlands Clearfield, said.
“The QCare facility offers another option for patients needing medical care. We’re very excited to have the opportunity to offer such convenient and exceptional care to the Clearfield community.
“This facility will increase access in the region to both primary and urgent care, as well as diagnostic testing and occupational health services.”
Norman also said that in the very near future, Mandie Shaw, a certified registered nurse practitioner, will be establishing her practice in the new facility to provide primary care to patients in the Clearfield and surrounding areas. Shaw has been serving patients at QCare Moshannon Valley in Philipsburg.
