PHILIPSBURG – The Osceola Mills Historical Foundation’s annual dinner will be held Thursday, Nov. 30 at the Elks Country Club in Philipsburg.  Each person attending will be able to order individually from the available menu.

After the dinner, David Wulderk of Houtzdale will present a local historical program dealing with the career of Dr. Betty Hayes of Force, Pa.

Dr. Hayes was instrumental in leading the 1945 and 1946 fight for clean well water and proper sanitary conditions in the Bennett’s Valley communities of northern Clearfield and southern Elk counties.

She transferred her physician’s call for clean water facilities and sanitary sewer facilities in the small mining communities, which she served, into a moral crusade against the inaction of the Shawmut Coal Co., which owned the company housing of the area.

Dr. Hayes died in 1984 and is still locally remembered fondly by now elderly men and women, some of whom she treated.

The public is welcome.  Those wishing to attend should call 814-378-5748 for a reservation.
