DUBOIS – Cultural Resources Inc. at the Reitz Theater opens its 2018 season with Shakespeare’s classic tragedy Romeo & Juliet. However, Reitz Theater Players’ version is a tragic-comedy set at a bowling alley in 1958.

Auditions are this weekend, Friday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m.

Shakespeare scholar and Reitz Theater Players’ Dramaturge, Mary Beth Geppert of Clearfield, edited its version to keep Shakespeare’s bawdiness a central focus.

Comedic roles (often cut) remain to bring out the laughs. Peter (the clown) and three musicians with speaking roles will fill the Reitz Stage with an original score by Steve W. Dixon of Curwensville.

You can come join the Reitz Theater Players, as they create this timeless romantic tragedy in the atmosphere of a 1958’s bowling alley with warring teams: the Montague and the Capulets.

Up to 39 characters are in Romeo & Juliet, and ages 14-plus are welcome to join RTP this weekend.

Fourteen (14) actors will train in stage combat, such as Switchblade street brawls and hand-to-hand combat training by Thomas Evans IV of DuBois.

Interested actors can come and train in stage combat, play an instrument or dance to an original score.

Romeo & Juliet produced by Cultural Resources Inc. (CRI) opens at the Reitz Theater on Feb. 9 with shows Feb. 10, 15, 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 11 at 2 p.m.

Tickets available after Dec. 1 at ReitzTheater.com, at the theater’s box office Thursdays 1 p.m. – 6 p.m., and at Kohlhepp’s True Value in DuBois.
