MIDDLETOWN — Sophomore forward Raquel Grice (Clearfield) booted two goals, including the game-winner, in Penn State Harrisburg’s 6-1 non-conference win over Lycoming Wednesday and added another in the Lions’ 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference shutout of Southern Virginia Saturday.
Against Lycoming, Grice converted Christina Smith’s pass to give the Lions a 2-0 lead at the 26:17 mark and closed the scoring with an unassisted goal at 86:23.
Against Southern Virginia, she cashed her lone shot for an unassisted goal at the 50:23 mark for the second score as the 7-3 Lions remained unbeaten at home to even their conference record at 1-1.
Grice has registered eight shots, four on goal, in nine appearances, including seven starts.

CLARION — Senior defender/forward Carlee Freeberg (Clearfield) played a reserve role in Clarion’s 3-0 home shutout against Pitt-Johnstown at Memorial Stadium Wednesday night and the double overtime scoreless tie at Bloomsburg Saturday.
Unscored on in their last four outings, the Golden Eagles sport a 6-4-2 record, 5-3-2 and tied for fifth place with 17 points in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
Their win total is the most since 2006.

ERIE — Junior midfielder Tessa Munshower (Clearfield) got off one shot and senior midfielder McKenna Aleksivich (Clearfield) also played as Penn State Behrend turned back D’Youville (N.Y.) 6-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action last Tuesday.
Munshower also played in the Lions’ 3-0 win over Mount Aloysius Saturday, their third consecutive shutout against AMCC opponents.
Munshower has appeared in seven games with two shots, while Aleksivich has played in two games.

FOOTBALL
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Junior linebacker Dusty Maines (Clearfield) made five solo tackles for Thiel in a 55-3 loss to Washington & Jefferson with 1,288 fans on hand in Cameron Stadium Monday night.
The Presidents’ Athletic Conference game was moved from Saturday after Thiel’s Department of Athletics cancelled all practices and games from Wednesday through Sunday as a precautionary measure in response to the investigation, aided by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, of a gastrointestinal illness was found to affect select students. State officials advised that activities involving close physical contact be avoided, athletic competitions and intramurals in particular.
Maines has nine solo stops for the Tomcats, who are 1-4 with a 1-2 PAC start.

WORCESTER, Mass. — Sophomore kicker/punter Spencer Herrington (Clearfield) added seven points to his season total as Worcester Polytechnic Institute rolled past Marine Maritime 45-0 in front of 694 fans at Alumni Stadium Saturday.
In addition to booting four extra points, Herrington was true on a career-long 41-yard field goal in the third quarter. He later hit the left upright on a 26-yarder, his first miss of the season.
Herrington has accounted for 32 points with 17 PATs and five field goals.
WPI (3-2, 1-1 NEWMAC) never punted in its first New England Women and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory, so Herrington’s stats remained a 22 punts for a 32.8-yard average with a long of 49 yards.

WESTMINSTER, Md. — Senior starting left guard Jon Janocko (Clearfield) was involved in Juniata’s game-winning two-point conversion against McDaniel Saturday that was declared Play of the Week by D3football.com and can be found on the Juniata football web site.
After the host Green Terror, who had tied the game on a last-second field goal, went up 41-34 on the first possession of overtime, the Eagles answered with a passing touchdown and, following two timeouts, went for two with a trick play.
As quarterback Austin Montgomery walked left like he was calling an audible, running back Matt Lehr received a direct snap and started right, only to pitch back to wide receiver Jake Notestine, who found Montgomery wide open for the two-pointer after he had slipped between Janocko and left tackle Alex Floken into the end zone.
The 42-41 thriller, watched by a crowd of 4,012 in Kenneth R. Gill Stadium, was Juniata’s first win in four Centennial Conference games following their season-opening victory.

WILLIAMSPORT — Senior Brad Stubbs (Curwensville) started at center for a unit that piled up 469 yards and 22 first downs while sophomore defensive lineman Nate Lash (Clearfield) recorded a solo tackle in his first appearance as Lycoming drubbed Wilkes 34-7 in front of 1,134 fans at David Person Field Saturday.
The Warriors balanced their Middle Atlantic Conference record at 2-2 and moved to 2-3 overall.

PITTSBURGH — Redshirt sophomore fullback Erik Sellers (Clearfield) saw his first action for Pitt Saturday in a 42-10 non-conference win at Heinz Field.
A crowd of 33,051 saw the Panthers end a three-game losing streak for a 2-3 record.

MEN’S GOLF
NEW CASTLE — Senior Jason Thorp (Curwensville) continued his excellent play for Thiel by tying for third place in the Westminster Fall Invitational with a three-over-par 75 at the New Castle Country Club Monday, Sept. 25.
Senior Brett Gardner (Curwensville) struggled and wound up with a season-high 92, but the other four Pitt-Bradford linksmen combined for a 317 to finished just two strokes behind champion Grove City.
The tourney drew 73 entries from 14 teams.

UNIVERSITY PARK — Sophomore Brandon Orsich (Clearfield) carded an 81 at the Penn State White Course to help Penn State DuBois, coached by Vic Gearhart of Curwensville, earn second place in a Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference tournament Monday, Sept. 25.
Orsich’s score was third-best for the Lions, whose 320 aggregate was bettered only by Penn State Lehigh Valley’s 313 total.
