CLEARFIELD – Local support is helping to keep a public library open.
At Tuesday’s Lawrence Township Supervisors meeting, Kevin Stebits, Mike Bookhammer and Jayme Stonbraker thanked the supervisors for their continuing support of the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library.
Stebits said the library serves residents from Clearfield Borough, Lawrence Township and Bradford Township. He said the library has been operating since the 1940’s.
Bookhammer said there have been 29,000 visitors to the library this year. There have been 8,000 individuals logging on to the library’s online services each month, 4,500 individuals using the library’s WiFi connection and 2,900 e-books and audio books downloaded.
Stebits said the library hosts Storytime for young children, with about 75 participants per week, a summer reading program and many other programs for library patrons of all ages.
Also at the meeting, Police Chief Doug Clark said two officers have completed training to become Standard Field Sobriety instructors.
Clark said this is particularly important, as these officers can now train other officers to perform sobriety tests. Clark said since Friday, officers in the police department have made nine DUI/drug arrests.
In other business, the supervisors voted to approve setting Trick-or-Treat from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Oct. 31.
