DUBOIS – State Reps. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk), Tommy Sankey (R-Clearfield/Cambria) and Cris Dush (R-Jefferson/Indiana) are co-hosting officials from the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) in two public meetings designed to discuss and answer questions about chronic wasting disease (CWD).

The meetings will take place from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Thursday, Sept. 28 – Student Union Building on the Penn State DuBois campus, 1 College Pl., DuBois.
  • Thursday, Oct. 5 – Mahaffey Volunteer Fire Department, 958 Market St., Mahaffey.

“Representatives from the PGC have scheduled a series of meetings in parts of the state where CWD has been detected in an effort to get the latest information into the public’s hands,” said Gabler.

“We appreciate them coming to Clearfield County and helping us separate fact from fiction as we try to curb the spread of the disease.”

Sankey says there appears to be some progress in fighting CWD.

“Disease Management Area 1 in the southern part of the state is being eliminated due to the lack of a positive CWD test in the last five years,” he said.

“PGC officials can discuss how that was made possible and explain similar steps we can take here in Disease Management Area 2.”

Dush feels the meeting is timely as hunters prepare for deer season.

“In addition to hunters, deer processors and taxidermists play key roles in this battle against CWD,” he said. “They all can help the PGC keep tabs on the disease and allow them to do as much as they can to prevent it from spreading.”
