CLEARFIELD – After a preliminary hearing Wednesday, all charges were held to court against a La Jose man who has been accused of burglarizing a hunting cabin.
Roger Lee Albright II, 34, has been charged by Punxsutawney-based state police with burglary, F1; criminal trespass, F2; theft by unlawful taking, F2; receiving stolen property, F2; and criminal mischief, M2. His bail has been set at $100,000 monetary.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Feb. 8, a state trooper was dispatched to a reported hunting cabin burglary on Rabbit Hill Road in La Jose.
When the trooper arrived at the scene, he observed damage to the front door where someone had forced entry. He also observed where a shed had been broken into.
Inside the cabin, the trooper observed where a turkey mount had been damaged; several items were also stolen. The victim sent out a Facebook message regarding the incident and to offer a cash prize.
When the trooper contacted the victim Feb. 25, the victim said his friend had information that he’d received from another friend. The trooper made contact with the victim’s friend.
The victim’s friend stated that on Feb. 23, he was contacted through Facebook in regards to items stolen from the cabin. He was told that the items were at Albright’s residence.
When the trooper contacted this witness, he said he’d been contacted on Facebook by someone who was able to identify the stolen items at a residence.
The second witness said he’d been at Albright’s residence around Feb. 11-13. While there, he allegedly saw a television, trail cameras, range finder, women’s deer skin slippers and a rifle.
He said Albright was trying to sell the items, going to keep the rifle and had the television mounted to his wall. These items matched the description of those stolen from the cabin and had just appeared there.
This witness was later asked to try to confirm if Albright still had the stolen items. On Feb. 27, he called and asked Albright if he had any trail cameras for sale.
Albright confirmed he had the trail cameras and attempted to sell them to him. The witness asked for specific brands, and they appeared to match those stolen from the cabin.
The trooper subsequently requested a search warrant, and it was approved and served on the residence. It turned up a television, trail cameras, rifle and other items.
There were other items not recovered during the search. The victim had reported around $3,895 in stolen items, and only $1,735 worth was recovered from Albright’s residence, according to the affidavit.
Total property damage, including damage to the cabin, shed and turkey mount, totaled $1,472.
