CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man accused of propositioning a 13-year-old girl for sex pleaded guilty Monday during colloquy court.

Romie D. Young, III, 18, was sentenced to 12 months to three years in state prison for two F3 counts each of unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors and criminal use of communication facility.

Young must complete sexual offender counseling, and he is to have no contact with underage girls.

Prior to sentencing, Judge Fredric J. Ammerman stated that when this incident occurred, Young was on juvenile probation for statutory sexual assault.

First Assistant District Attorney Ryan Dobo noted that the victim in the previous case is the same age as the victim in this case.

Dobo also said that Young had an assessment and was found not to be a sexually violent predator.

Young addressed the court and apologized for his actions.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Jan. 12 police were contacted by the victim’s father. He told officers his 13-year-old daughter was having communications with an 18-year-old male identified as Young. After he became aware of the contact, the victim’s father reviewed numerous messages via Facebook messenger.

The contact started on Jan. 10 and ended when the father discovered the messages. In these messages, Young was asking the girl to have sex with him. From the messages, it appeared Young was aware of the girl’s age. He set up a day, Jan. 20, and place for them to meet.

In an interview with police, Young admitted he was communicating with her to set up an opportunity to have sex and stated that he would have had sex with her if they met on that day, according to the criminal complaint.
