CLEARFIELD – Several items were addressed at last night’s Clearfield Borough committee meeting, including a stop sign on South Fourth Street and opening of bids.
Streets Supervisor Todd Kling told the council that the crews have had to replace the stop sign at the intersection of South Fourth and Clinton streets. The sign is on the edge of the parking lot for Clearfield Wholesale Paper.
Kling said it has been getting hit and needing replaced often. He added that CWP has not complained about this at all, but he wondered if a sign is needed there any longer, adding that he understands the reason it was placed there to begin with, but foot traffic is much less there than in the past.
Police Chief Vincent McGinnis said that there is a lot of speeding on South Fourth Street and the stop sign does help with that.
Council members and the chief will look at the situation and revisit the matter at a later date.
Kling also noted they are working to fix signage around the borough to make navigation clearer for visitors.
Bids for a liquid fuels paving project were opened and Glen O. Hawbaker appears to have the low bid of $108,466.20.
The public works committee will recommend awarding the bid pending review by Sean Agosti of the state Department of Transportation’s Municipal Services department.
The committee will also recommend accepting a proposal from Jefferson Paving for tar and chipping in the borough for $9,990.54.
Front and Second streets are scheduled to be paved next Monday through Wednesday between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. The parking meters on those streets will be bagged with the times listed.
Under planning, the committee recommends approval of the 2018 Tree Planting Grant Application through TreeVitalize.
The personnel committee will recommend approving the resignation of part-time Officer Kevin Orndorff and also approving training for Officer Shawn Fye for fire and arson investigation. The training is free but the borough will need to pay for room and board. The training will be held Aug. 7-11.
