CURWENSVILLE –   Area children and teens are invited to “Build a Better World” through reading by joining the annual summer reading program at the Curwensville Public Library.

Participation in the program is free and it runs from June 6 through Aug. 8.  To sign up for summer reading, interested individuals may visit the library during regular business hours.

At registration, participants will receive the program guidelines, a reading log and a schedule of events.

Peggy Barrett, youth services coordinator, has planned an exciting schedule for this year.

Through books, activities, performers and guest presenters, participants will discover new ways of looking at the world around them.

The program line-up begins with a thrilling magic show featuring M&M Magic on June 13 at 10 a.m. at the Curwensville Elementary gym.

All registered summer reading participants who attend the show will be entered in a drawing to win a swimming pool sponsored by Wal-Mart Distribution Center.

On-site registration for the summer program will be available for youth who have not previously registered.

The goals of the summer reading program are to motivate community members to read for pleasure, encourage school-aged youth to maintain reading skills and establish the library as an essential community service.

“The reading program is designed to keep students engaged during the summer and to foster a love of reading,” shared Paula Collins, director.

“In addition, it also reinforces that public libraries are community gathering spaces, information sharing places, technology hubs, literacy centers, and promoters of education and life-long learning for all ages.”

The library would like to invite all recent Class of 2017 high school graduates and area adults to sign-up for the adult summer reading program.  Information about the adult summer reading and the program schedule will be available soon.

Throughout the summer, participants of the “Build a Better World”  reading program, will experience at least one of the five literacies (Basic, Financial, Information, Health, and or Civic & Social) at all library events as part of the PA Forward | Pennsylvania Library Association initiative.

The Curwensville Public Library is open on Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

For questions about the “Build a Better World” summer reading program, call 814-236-0355. Additional information may also be found on the library Web site at www.clearfieldcountylibrary.org.
