Ronald E. Johnson, 78, of Summerville, SC and formerly of Lewes, Del., Wilmington, Del., and Lanse, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at Summerville Medical Center. 

Born Oct. 5, 1938 in Lanse, he was the son of the late Gunnard and Lois (Showers) Johnson.  He graduated from Cooper Township High School and Lock Haven University. 

On Oct. 21, 1961, he married the former Barbara L. Twist, who died Oct. 1, 2014. 

Mr. Johnson served six years in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He taught driver’s education at Delcastle High School in Wilmington, Del., for more than 30 years. 

He was an avid fan of wrestling. He was the head coach of the Delcastle High School wrestling team as well as an assistant coach of its football team.

He is survived by two sons, Keith R. Johnson of Bald Head Island, NC and Korey R. Johnson and his wife, Kristy of Summerville, SC; a brother, Wayne Johnson and his wife, Jeannie of Morrisdale; and two grandsons, Gabriel R. Johnson and Lucas C. Johnson, both of Summerville, SC. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two infant daughters.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Philipsburg, with the Rev. Father Robert McKay IV officiating.

Military honors will be conducted at the church by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
