TIFFIN, Ohio — Junior right-hander Rachel Hoffman (Clearfield) pitched an eight-inning gem to log her, and Clarion’s, third win of the season Wednesday.
Hoffman limited the hosts, Tiffin University, to three singles while striking out three and walking two in the 2-0 non-conference victory.
She came back with another complete game Sunday but had no run support in a 3-0 home loss to Bloomsburg, which swept the Golden Eagles in their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference twinbill.
Hoffman fanned four, walked two and gave up six hits in her 11th start.
She has pitched in 12 games with a 4.11 earned run average for 64.2 innings. Her stats include 76 hits allowed with 54 strikeouts, 25 walks and five hit batsmen.

HUNTINGDON — Freshman pitcher Raeleigh Redden (Clearfield) picked up her second win in three decisions by closing out Juniata’s 8-5 non-conference win over visiting Pitt-Greensburg Thursday.
She gave up two hits and one run in her two-inning stint.
Redden pitched one scoreless inning in relief for the Eagles in their 9-4 Landmark Conference loss to Moravian at Bethlehem Sunday afternoon.
She has worked 16 innings six appearances, including two starts, with a 4.38 earned run average with one strikeout and nine walks.

BASEBALL
DUBOIS — Sophomore catcher/third baseman Josh Sorbera (Clearfield) had three hits and drove in three runs, two on sacrifice flies, as Penn State DuBois won three games at Showers Field to strengthen its grip on second place behind unbeaten Penn State Allegheny in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference.
The Lions defeated Penn State Mont Alto 10-0 last Wednesday and then swept Penn State New Kensington 10-0 and 13-3 Sunday.
Freshman pitcher Brandon Orsich (Clearfield) logged one scoreless inning against Penn State Altoona with one strikeout and one hit allowed.
He has worked nine innings with three strikeouts, one hit batsman and an 8.00 earned run average.
Sorbera is off to a .375 start since returning to action in late March.

ALTOONA — Junior pitcher Kurtis Krise (Clearfield) experienced his roughest outing of the season for Penn State Altoona Sunday afternoon when the Lions dropped their home openers to Medialle (N.Y.), 12-1 and 14-9, at Juniata Civic Field.
Krise relieved and worked 1-2/3 innings early in the first game of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader, giving up five hits and five runs, only two earned.
The right-hander’s earned run averaged bumped up to 2.87, still tops for the Lions’ staff.
He has pitched 15-2/3 innings in six appearances with seven strikeouts, six walks and two hit batsmen.
Penn State Altoona is 1-3 in the AMCC and 9-13 overall.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Sophomore Sarah Lash (Clearfield) recorded a season-best hammer throw of 30.89 meters (101 feet, four inches) to place 25th at the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary at Zable Stadium from Thursday through Saturday.
She finished 16th in the javelin event with a throw of 30.86 meters (101-3).

MEN’S GOLF
CROFTON, Md. — Junior Jason Thorp (Curwensville) carded rounds of 82, 77 and 78 over the Crofton Country Club course for Thiel’s best score, 237, in the Coaches Invitational Classic hosted by California University of Pennsylvania early last week.
Thorp finished in a four-way tie for 25th place among the 56 golfers from 10 schools.
The Bobcats wound up last with a team aggregate of 1,027.
